We all know that Stagehands are the ones in the
shadows making it possible for the show to go on. What we sometimes forget is
that there is another group, even further from the spotlights, making it
possible for the stagehands to do their jobs.
The executive staff:
President, Scott Collins
Vice President, Robert Moody
Business Agent, Saul Lucio
The buck stops here. If a call isn’t filled; if a
hand does not show up for a call that he/she agreed to work; if payroll gets
screwed up; if any of a hundred other problems occur . . . . These are the
people who will have to answer for it. These people negotiate our contracts
to ensure we get paid the best possible rates and benefits. They follow up on
any complaints coming from either hands or employers. This can be a thankless
24/7 job, but they do it proudly.
The Call Steward:
Call Steward, Susan Phillips
This exceptional person keeps track of dozens of ever
changing calls and hundreds of stagehands. Without her, nobody would
know when or where to show up for work. She not only needs to know who
everyone is and how to reach them, she also has to know what tasks each hand is capable
of completing. She must both, make sure every call is filled, and make
sure that the hands sent to each call can handle anything that they are
required to do. Even though she may have a hundred more calls to make,
she takes the time to give each hand as much information as possible and to
place them on a call that will best suit their needs as well as those of the
employer. This person deserves all of our patience and respect.
The Financial Department:
Secretary-Treasurer, Scott Campbell
Scott collects the stagehands employment paperwork and
keep track of all financial records. He checks in every paycheck and
makes sure that each stagehand gets full credit for any work dues taken out of
their checks. All of this information must be compiled, tracked and
reported both to the members of the local and various government agencies.
He is also tasked with collecting any work dues not withheld, as well as any
fines or other obligations which a stagehand may have to the Local. He
must collect these fees, prepare a budget, and do all in his power to enforce
it. Without his efforts, all hands would be required to pay higher work
dues and fees in order to keep the Local in operation.
The Communications Dept.
Webmaster, Pam
Web pictures, Pam,
Jerry Mehm (photo with dad, Joe Mehm on left), and
Charlie Spock
Pam collects information provided by many members
within the Local and presents it for everyone’s use on the internet. She
provides calendars (with Nick's help), directions to venues, parking and
transportation information (with Pete's help), contact information, and links
to all things Stagehand related. Pam, Jerry and Charlie give us great photos
of stagehands at work.
This information is thoughtfully provided by Scott
Campbell so you will know more of what goes on behind the scenes!
